“Everything from a single source”

With various excavators and wheel loaders as well as over 30 hydraulic attachments of various kinds, the contractor Jochen Wrage from Drochtersen, northwest of Hamburg, has a well-stocked range of construction machinery and hydraulic attachments. In order to be able to use this more efficiently, for the first time the family-owned company has now ordered the engcon Tiltrotator EC219, three S quick hitches, a pallet fork and two grading buckets as well as various adapter plates.
“This means we can now work much more flexibly and quickly,” says Markus Wrage, who is responsible for operations together with his brothers Michael and Andreas.

Founded by Markus Wrage’s father Jochen, the company has been located just outside Hamburg for over 30 years, providing customers mainly from the local area with a good, stable order situation. The family business is divided into three areas: Markus
Wrage is responsible for the construction industry (earthworks, demolition, recycling), Michael Wrage is responsible for forestry and landscape management and Andreas Wrage takes care of the supply and disposal of containers as well as material preparation.

For several reasons, Markus Wrage decided on the engcon package – consisting of the EC219 Tiltrotator with integrated grab, three S60 quick hitches and EC-Oil automatic hydraulic connector system and the DC2 control system as well as the various attachments and adapter plates. In this matter, he received detailed advice from Christian Kaiser, Sales Manager of the German engcon branch. “Above all, I wanted a system that provides everything from a single source,” emphasises Markus Wrage. For example, a wide range of hydraulic attachments would be changed several times a day – be it a grab, mulcher, stump grinder, vibrating plate, hammer, conical splitter, ditch mower, pallet fork or paver laying clamp. “And I wanted to minimise the resulting time loss. Drivers no longer have to leave the cab to change attachments
on the excavator.”

Being able to work much more flexibly and quickly on small construction sites thanks to the Tiltrotator is equally important to Markus Wrage. “Now you don’t have to use two excavators of different sizes,” says the 36-year-old. “One powerful machine that does all the work together with the tilt is enough. This improves efficiency and therefore productivity.” In future, the EC219 will be coupled to three machines: the Atlas
160 W Big Foot mobile excavator and the two Liebherr 914 and 918 compact wheeled excavators.

In addition, Tiltrotators and S quick hitches open up the possibility of accepting orders in the field of special civil engineering in future, for example laying soldier pile walls or handling drill rods. “I wouldn’t have had to study if I didn’t want to offer this type of work,” says Markus Wrage, who graduated from the renowned Ostfalia University of Applied Sciences in Suderburg, Germany, with a degree in civil engineering with a focus on road construction, civil engineering, hydraulic and environmental engineering, gaining his first professional experience in the Allgäu region.

“Since our construction machines covers a very wide spectrum, they simply have to be very versatile,” Markus Wrage emphasises. “And the better equipped the machines are, the better they are to work with.” The engcon system now guarantees this – offering
Markus Wrage a further advantage in addition to the sophisticated technology: “The resale value of engcon products is simply greater than that of other providers.”

“And I wanted to minimise the resulting time loss. Drivers no longer have to leave the cab to change attachments on the excavator.”
