“EC209 beats them all”

John Rowbotham in Ceredigion works as a contractor in rural Wales. Not only has he come to appreciate the tiltrotator’s capabilities over time, it has also become a necessity for completing jobs quickly, efficiently and profitably.

He recently purchased a new EC209 from engcon and had it installed on his Hitachi ZX85US-5 by dealer JCC Engcon. And he’s more than happy.

“It is superior to all the other tiltrotators I’ve used; it’s a very well thought-out design. It’s not only strong, it’s also much more compact than previous tiltrotators I’ve owned.”

20 years’ experience

John has been in the business around 20 years and mainly does ground work and agricultural work within a 12-mile radius from Ceredigion. Over the years, John has built up a dedicated circle of customers who rely on his experience and the fact that he has all necessary equipment.

For example, John has equipped his Hitachi with 800 mm wide tracks to reduce track damage at sites, and he’s extended the dozer blade to cover the new track width.

He’s also invested in new hydraulic tools to fit the new tiltrotator. So far, John’s equipment includes a timber grapple, sorting grapple and hydraulically adjustable forks. This is in addition to various buckets, including an engcon grading bucket, which John describes as a ‘brilliant all-rounder’.

Working the Scandinavian way

Without a doubt, we can include John among the growing number of British machine owners and operators who have adopted the Scandinavian way of working with excavators effectively and profitably. 

“Now I can’t imagine working without a tiltrotator. With the tiltrotator and the wide range of tools I have, I’m able to accept many different assignments, and more often than not I can complete them alone. What’s more, I can do my work with far fewer machine moves and without manual labour, which makes things cheaper for both me and the customer.

John is always looking to the future and is considering adding to his tools with such things as a larger timber grapple and a demolition hammer. He is also tempted to invest in engcon’s EC-Oil for fast, safe hydraulic tool changes.

“It’s yet another game changer”, says John, referring to how the tiltrotator once changed the way he works for ever.
